MKVS

Majdoor Kisan Vikas Sansthan’ (MKVS) is a registered non-government organisation (NGO) having strong community base and work closely with the community mainly on agriculture and land rights-based advocacy for more than a decade now in select blocks of Gaya District in Bihar. Community mobilisation is the core strength to assert legal rights of Dalits’. We have been able to effectively mobilize the Dalit Community and further oriented the community to be assertive of their rights. Apart from this awareness we were very effectively created a base for the community through Natural Resource Management and changed the sustainability scenario of the villages. The Bhoodan land distributed among the community was developed through land development and providing the irrigation facilities in the villages. These initiatives taken by MKVS in partnership with CWS brought significant changes in the life of the community. It has not only raised the annual income of the households rather improve the lifestyle of the community in terms of health, education and nutrition etc. the community people are able to produce food grains on their own land for almost a year. It has improved the food security of community. It has also freed them from the bondage of the landlords and money lenders. Now the community is effectively covering all the lands distributed to them for cultivation. They are equipped with diesel pumps as well as solar pumps to carry forward their irrigation. The maintenance mechanism developed with our efforts is still effectively being followed by the community. This has changed the whole life of the community and it has become self-sustainable. The MKVS also implemented the project in Barachatty block in an initiative by Oxfam. This project was implemented in 9 villages of 3 panchayats in Barachatty block. We formed the village level committee to monitor the PDS, ICDS, MDM and MGNREGS for better implementation of the government schemes. Rate and Weight was the main slogan for this initiative which not only awaked the community for securing their own rights but also brought changes in the distribution system.
